ZoomRate

Summary

Local job search using maps and recommender algorithms.

Details

ZoomRate was a research project for a major job-search company. ZoomRate aimed to cater for those interested in jobs according to location by presenting them on maps. It also aimed to capture people’s interests in jobs by analyzing what map areas they observed, what types of job they clicked on, and used recommender system algorithms to evaluate their job preferences. This information was presented to both employers and job seekers as a way of improving the probability of a match. AJAX, VirtualEarth and probability theory were heavily utilized. The lit areas showing job locations and job density were produced by intercepting requests to the VirtualEarth tile server, decoding the requested tile, and dynamically blending with our own.
